Overtones
Built in to the building is art by local artist and sculpter Thomas Sayre. The ‘Overtones’ Sculpture is a visible representation of how the bell makes sound, the physics of the ringing of the bell. The art piece purposely ties into the historic Belltower on the campus of North Carolina State University, providing a visual compliment to its university neighborhood.
Poppies! On the Wall of the Courtyard at The Poppy Georgetown
The courtyard patio at The Poppy Georgetown Guesthouse and Gardens, unveils a mesmerizing tapestry of artistic expression by Amy Kaslow. Her work seamlessly melds vibrant hues with a profound, botanical narrative, transforming the space into a haven of visual delight. Each brrick seems to breathe life into the walls, with a kaleidoscope of colors evoking emotions that transcend the mundane. A shout-out that all are welcome to visit the courtyard in the notable neighborhood of Georgetown, Washington DC.
Bethesdan Mural
Embracing the community, The Bethesdan Hotel features a one-of-a-kind, 40’ high by 100’ long mural curated by a local artist, Alicia "Decoy" Cosnaham, on the south exterior wall of the property. The artwork combines a sunflower, hummingbird, and swaths of color to welcome visitors, enhance the landscape of downtown, and celebrate the influence of the community on the hotel. Alicia painted the wall in July 2019.
Earth Wall
Thomas Sayre is an American sculptor and painter. He designs and builds public art projects and private commissions all over the world. Sayre’s current work includes large paintings made with tar smoke, gunshots, welding material, earth, and fire. He is known for his earthcastings, monumental sculptures made in and of the earth. In addition to the Overtones Sculpture at the Aloft Raleigh, Thomas created our Earthwall that warms the walls of our lower lobby.
Canopy Front Desk Art
Hospitality is a warm smile and friendly face. With a people first attitude, it' was important to humanize the art on display. Installed in 2019 during the renovation, this drapery art piece hangs adjacent to the front desk, offering an inviting welcome to the Canopy by Hilton Washington DC Embassy Row.
Pen and Ink Creation at The Poppy Georgetown
The stairwell wall at The Poppy Georgetown is a testament to the transcendent beauty curated by local DMV artist Brandon McDonald, renowned for his exquisite pen and ink creations. McDonald's mastery unfolds on the vertical canvas, where intricate lines and meticulous details converge to narrate a captivating story. The monochromatic palette, a hallmark of his penmanship, casts a spellbinding spell as patrons ascend. Each step reveals a new facet of the neighborhood's essence, intricately etched in ink – a homage to the local vibe. McDonald's work transforms the stairwell into a dynamic gallery, seamlessly merging artistic finesse with the pulse of the nation's capital.

The Re-opening night of The Bethesdan Hotel gave opportunity for the artist of the exterior mural, Alicia Cosnahan, to mirror a similar piece on the wall inside the lobby and paint during the event. Alicia is a Washington DC resident, earned her Bachelor of Arts from Berry Collage in Mount Berry, GA. She has participated in many solo and group exhibitions as well as numerous murals in Maryland, Virginia, New Jersey and Washington, DC.

During re-opening night, guests were invited to snap pictures on their smart phones and upload them to instagram using the hashtag #livbethesda . These images were then printed during the event and placed on the wall. The mosaic hung on the wall in the lobby mirrors the exterior mural in keeping with the theme of the art on display at The Bethesdan Hotel.
